Why Freshers and Young Experienced Engineers Fail to get job
This is a very serious issue and one who is failing in getting the job should look into it. Why I am not getting the job.

A fresher is likely to be expected as they will not be recruited for any jobs because they do not have experience in handling work.

What we learn in Engineering, may not apply in many works which are done at construction projects. They need a basic attention and some engineering, max require is common sense in doing work and good observation skills.

Do Employer does not have money to pay freshers or Engineers with little Experience?

It's not a case that employer's do not have money to pay. The biggest problem in construction Industry is when company recruits new staff, the immediate boss put all responsibilities on shoulder of new recruit without even thinking that he does not have experience and do not know what his job(as I said earlier most works are just a common sense and active observation of you so people most likely tend to hand over all responsibilities to bottom). When a big issue is caused a blame game starts, I gave him all responsibilities he should look into it. The new recruit says, Sir, i am new to this type of work and I don't know how to do it nor my boss told me how to do it. This game is like never-ending.

Due to those mistakes companies suffer on losses due to repair cost, extra cost incurred due to delays and damages to brand name and as no one can change the attitude of anyone and also cant bear heavy debts due to mistake. Employer tends to prefer more experience candidate as this reduces some losses.

Maximum Engineers do not know what is their job including peoples having 20 to 30 years experience and this is the reason they never get promoted to new levels of responsibility.

The problem lies in with all of us when fresher or little-experienced person get recruited, no one takes effort to train them, teach them their responsibilities. (Main problem is when your boss join as a fresher, there was no one to teach him and he learn everything on his own and maybe his knowledge is half and he don't want to disclose you by teaching you).

No institute in this world can teach you how to do your job unless you are practically involved in that activity. You may get guidance but to get that too, one who gives you should have knowledge in it.

Why am I failing in each interview or no one is offering me a job?

Interviewers are those which gains real experience in their field of work and become big boss.
When they took interview they only check your knowledge in that field and your Abilities & Attitude to learn new things.

Below are some examples of failure

Interviewer: What is mix design of M10?
Candidate: Sir 1:2:4

Interviewer: Very nice then how you will do concrete by mixing it?
Candidate: Sir, I will take 1 part cement 2 part sand 4 part 20mm and mix it in the mixer.

Interviewer: how you will do reconciliation of materials used and wastage occurred?
Candidate: Sir standard wastage for cement is 2% aggregate is 3%, I will not waste more than it.

Interviewer: How?
Candidate: I will control them and ensure they batch as per specification.

Interviewer: ok very nice, now you can go, HR will contact you in a day or two.

If answered such way, you are most likely rejected from that job, because he does not wish to understand the theory, he asked those question to check what are you up to.

Good answer to above example without letting interviewer ask furthermore question about it.
Concrete mix design for M10 need to be made if not available we can use conventional mixes as specified in IS 456.
If we do conventional mix as per IS code we are likely to waste the more quantity of cement which can increase the cost of the project.
I am good in mix design and I can do it and save you lot of money on concrete cost.
The mix which is designed on paper cannot be used for production directly I will need at least a month time to take trials optimise it to the optimum content of all ingredients and after getting satisfactory results we can move on to production and will keep optimising further to save more.

Mixes need to be adjusted for change in the source of material and their properties. Especially during monsoon, more care needs to be taken to adjust moisture at each instance of changes.
The answer furthermore goes on and interviewer like to hear something like this after this interviewer ask some practical problem questions if you answer well then you are most likely to get that job because you know what your responsibility and interviewer to know that you are the best candidate to offer this job.

Another example
Interviewer:
How to check column?
Candidate: Will check reinforcement done as per drawing or not, then will check formwork dimensions, plumb and supports.

I will not go more deeply into it as I written a very big post so do not want to bore you.
Don't you think its general answer, a Supervisor can say?

A good answer might be.

I will check the lap length of the bar for correct location and length, will not allow more than 50% lapping at the same level.
Will check diameters, numbers, and spacing of bars, rings/stirrups as per drawing or not especially in confinement zone.
Then will check the rings/stirrups hooks bent at 135 degrees or not and length of the hook.
Cover block fixing is done correctly or not.
Once found satisfactory, will allow the contractor to proceed further with shuttering works. Will ensure cleaned and oil shutters are installed, they are not damaged, have holes in it. Will ensure he uses a sponge sheet at joints to eliminate slurry loss and honeycomb during concrete. and so on....

This is the way, Interviewer likes your knowledge and gives you the opportunity to work with them.

Answer which throws you out when you answer
Interviewer: So as per your CV it shows you have certification in auto cad, kindly measure the length of this wall shown on this auto cad plan.
Candidate: Sir I did this when I was in college now I forgot how to do it.
Do not write any such things in your CV which you are not in position to do, even if you have certificate for it (Certificate do not have any value if you perform to fail that action)

To know this all in detailed, An Engineer who got recruited prior in other company should learn by observing all activities which he looks after at project and learns the best way of doing it, no one is going to teach you if they have half knowledge in it due to fear of getting exposed.
If you get good guru who teaches you good thing, be with him for at least some period of time and learn everything which you can, this will help you in your future career in that company or other company.

The only thing which no one can make you lose is the "Knowledge". and it gives you all which you wish.
The reason for failure is written in a very good English phrase
You see it but do not observe (This means you are doing work without understanding it)

So I hope now young Engineers with or without experience will start observing things and make their own knowledge base which will help them to never get defeated by anyone.

Tips For Engineers who are in Job Search.

1. Do not beg on Whatsapp, Facebook by contacting unknown and saying I need an urgent job at any location - No one will help you in it.
2. Do not pay money to anyone, who promise you to give a job - If its the case, everyone would have got the job and all companies had got closed due to losses on the rejection of work quality and heavy debt due to repair.
3. You can join Job portals like Naukri, TimesJobs, Shine etc., where employer search for a right candidate.
4. If you are not getting the job, don't get panic. work with any contractor on low salary or for free at least for 6 months, get the knowledge of all which will make you best suitable candidate even if you have less experience.
5. Keep on learning new things.
6. Avoid learning from blogs and Youtube videos where you can not ask them, why, how, what etc. (They may be a students or freshers who can ruin your career). There may be some good blogger which are experienced and can provide you best knowledge but you should always check before learning from theirs.
7. You can Join Civil4M, its made for sharing knowledge, help each other. Here you can get guidance from many members by asking questions. It allows you to speak with engineers from all over the world.

This is what I can say for you all, You can like my post or comment your feedback on it by replying to this thread.
If you have anything you want me to add to it, you can always suggest or add by replying to this thread.

Very good one. One more very important information I wanted to share with u all. I get opportunities to interview freshers as well as experienced Engineers to the tune of 15 to 20 Years working as Project Managers. We nowdays are more focussed in one or two categories at a time like Quality control, blockwork, plastering, concreting etc., and many of them does not want to learn multiple categories which definitely helps you in getting jobs easily. For example, if an Engineer is looking after Shuttering/barbending he is more concentrating on that and he never show any interest in any other category even in a project where everything in going on in front of him.
This is a very bad procedure. Try to learn as many catergories as possible even though not completely (100%). Once I was interviewing an Engineer working as Project Manager. Whenever I was asking questions regarding Quality Control/Quantity Survey/ and other technical questions he was saying there are separate people for all these in my company. This answer shocked me.
Any company requires multi talented people , so that in case of emergency, they can reshuffle them as per their requirement. This also helps Engineers to get job easily in one or other category. Salary is the other important factor. One should look into the befenits of joining a company than the salary. One should be flexible in this regard also.
Hope the above points may help in getting jobs easily for all Civil Engineers.
