Civil Supervisor Duties and Responsibilities:

Have tried to summarize the CIVIL SUPERVISORS duties and responsibilities as far as possible, some points may have skipped past, in case anyone wants to add to this list they are welcome as all will benefit:

1. The first and foremost quality of a knowledgeable civil supervisor is that he should be able to read all the technical drawings which include architectural, structural, MEP drawings, etc.
2. Civil supervisors generally report to the junior engineer and assist him in checking the works hence should be updated on day to day works being carried out at the site.
3. He should be able to supervise all the activities related to the construction of the project taking guidance from the J.E
4. Civil supervisors have to inspect the works starting from scratch eg: if he is supervising RCC works then it starts with checking of centreline of columns,casting of starter,erection of formwork of column,checking of formwork of column,casting of column,deshuttering of column,transfer of levels to columns,checking of topi of beam bottoms,checking of beam bottoms,checking plumb of beam sides etc and the list goes on..... in short he should be checking each and every step of construction so that there are no mistakes and rework is avoided.
5. He has to keep track of the workers needed for completion of works on day to day basis, keep a record and organize the workforce accordingly.
6. He has to prepare a list of daily labor requirements, indent the labor requirements and also maintain labor register and allocate the works as per guidance from J.E.
7. Calculate the materials required and get the same indented through the J.E
8. He has to coordinate with different labor contractors, agencies, and supplier for the smoother function of the project.
9. He must check and control the wastage of material and prepare debit notes accordingly.
10. He must check all the works and insert the casting or erection dates from the curing and deshuttering point of view.
11. He must take concrete cubes, do the testing as per the time frames and report the same to the J.E
12. He must do the regular housekeeping after completion of days works on day to day basis
13. He must check the daily water and electrical requirements of the said project.
14. He must be aware of all the safety procedures on site and have control over all workers that they are using the necessary safety measures like PPE's ie, helmet, safety shoes, safety belt, personal protection gear, etc
15. He has to prepare the issue slips and issue the materials to workers from the stores.
16. He has to receive all the civil related materials, check the quantity and send the materials to the quality department for quality checks.No challans should be signed without quality checks by lab technicians.
17. Daily reports to engineer, properly documented on the quantum of work done, material and manpower consumption.
18. Request for material, Machinery, and labor in advance
19. Responsible for the commencement of work on time in the morning and afternoon session.
20. Last but not least he should be self-motivated and keep the workforce motivated to deliver the project on time.
