Column construction work method statement
To make the line & placement of columns/walls perfect, starter/kicker should be arranged for every column & shear walls, the location of wall of the column should be marked on raft/slab top for placing starter/kicker.
Starter should be formed with 100 mm x 50 mm channel section.
Concreting of starter should be started once the layout is checked retaining required clearance from clients.
The column wall shutters/boxes should be built with 12 mm thick film coated ply containing backing angles at the edges and flat at the center about 300 c/c both ways. The lift for column should be normally 2.4 m high but it may differ as per requirements.
Vertical reinforcement bars and stirrups should be arranged according to drawings & BBS which should be examined by the clients and properly secured with binding wire.
The reinforcement bars should be retained in exact location tightly from sway with proper scaffolding arrangement.
Make sure that exact cover is provided with sufficient numbers of concrete cover blocks.
The shutters of the column should be constructed properly to line and plumb and there should sufficient support to retain the same in exact location throughout and after concreting.
Proper staging/working platform should be provided for concreting.
Columns should be poured in layers of 300 mm thick and every layer should be vibrated perfectly.Always do melleting from external surface to find out the hollowness in concrete if any.
Sufficient numbers of manpower with regard to skilled and unskilled should be arranged to get the concrete.
There should be proper arrangement for lighting for the works to be done in late evenung/night.
Construction & expansion joints should be arranged and considered according to instructions/specifications.
Any concrete that is stored loosely should be eliminated & cleared away.
Hessian cloth should be covered around the column/wall for retaining the component soaked for at least 14 days.
Mark the date of casting once the deshuttering done so that you will come to know regarding the curing duration.
