Before excavation, you might have recorded the original ground levels OGL

After excavating trench, you might have recorded the reduce level of trench bottom RL

This will give you the heights / depths of trench.

Measure widht and length.

Width x Length x Depth = Volume.

Without records of level and dimension, you cant calculate.

You can calculate by assuming the dimension, but this will not be acceptable for billing.

Before excavation.
Determine the OGL reduce level. After excavation to required level you determine the new reduced level.
The difference is the height/depth of excavation . Determine the bulk density of the sample of excavated material and multiple it with the volume of trench.
