Yes, as you know in real world, you will be paid for the practical knowledge and ability to do work.
If you want to change role then you must be competent enough in that to secure that job.

Keep learning basic concepts of materials , properties , applications . This will make your base strong in quality control and also it will increase your desire to learn more and more in QC
