Aluminium powder is used to produce cellular concrete - A light weight concrete.

By using finely powdered aluminium with the slurry and made to react with calcium hydroxide liberated during the hydration process, large quantity of hydrogen gas is liberated. This hydrogen gas when contained in the slurry mix gives the cellular structure.
Powdered zinc may also be used in place of aluminium.
