Podiums are basically structures which are built between buildings or group of buildings connecting each other, which act as service slabs accommodating car parks, all the construction services like DG sets, Firefighting pumprooms, UGWTs, Clubhouse and its related amenities, walkways, gardens, play equipment, swimming pools, all such amenities promised by a builder/developer are accommodated on or inside the podiums.
There are two families of podiums :
1. Single podiums which can contain parking below and above with landscaped gardens accomodated above it.
2. Multi level podiums comprise of parking and MEP services accomodated below and top level accomodates the landscaped gardens and clubhouse etc.
Basic podiums should have a minimum height of 2.4 meters and above so as to accommodate easy movement of vehicles. Again height is relevant to use so the architects will design as per the need.
Sometimes when the ground level starts from podium level the driveways need to be designed for the Fire tender load if the buildings need to be serviced from the podium level.
Podium slabs are mostly designed as flat slabs or a combination of flat slabs or grids or PT slabs etc based on the design requirements of the architects.
