Plastic water tanks are made up from polyethylene and as per IS 12701.

Normally they last for 15 to 20 Years or even for longer time or can end up early, base on many factors such as

Installation Location
Tanks installed indoor can last longer due to no reaction with sunlight heat compare to tank installed outdoor. Almost all tanks have UV stabilizer compounded into the resin to being protect resin from harmful UV rays but up to some extent it may damage it. - a one coat of water base light color coat might help to reduce the UV damages.

Water Quality - impurities in stored water may damage the tank and also lead to health issues if not purified before consuming.

Providing Vents for Air Circulation
If not provided, it may lead to damages to tank specially when installed outdoor due to temperature changes.

Pipe fitting installation on tank
Tanks tends to change its size due to change in temperature (expansion and contraction) fittings should be flexible and should provide space for volume change. If rigid fittings are installed during expansion and contraction, it will damage the walls of tank.

Apart from above, water tank should be cleaned to ensure no algae formation on it and to clear all solids from water settled on its surface - this may react with tank walls when heated and cause damages.

Degradation rate of tank purely depend on type of liquid store in it and its chemical composition.

Hope this answer your question in detail.
At least this factors should be consider when installing plastic tank to get max life from it.

Sintex does not take any gaurantee for the life of its water tank. You can choose from other options like JS Polyplast or Polyprime which offer 5 years of gaurantee. In my personal experience I have been using JS Polyplast for my projects and the expected life of Thier Black ISI tank is 20 years.

The average lifespan of a Sintex water tank can vary depending on several factors. Generally, with proper installation, usage, and maintenance, a Sintex water tank can last for around 15 to 20 years or even longer. However, it's important to note that the actual lifespan can be influenced by factors such as the quality of water being stored, exposure to extreme weather conditions, and regular cleaning and maintenance practices. It is recommended to follow the manufacturer's guidelines and carry out routine inspections to ensure the longevity of the Sintex water tank.

Sintex tanks have a life expectancy of around 15-20 years on average, but this can vary depending on factors such as the quality of installation, maintenance, and the type of water being stored. It is important to regularly inspect and maintain your Sintex tank to ensure it lasts as long as possible.
