In a resounding testament to the commitment to quality, safety, and sustainability in the construction industry, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) took a significant step forward on October 26, 2023. BIS organized the first-ever awareness program for the Ready Mixed Concrete (RMC) Process Certification as per Standard for the industry, aimed at creating awareness about the issuance of licenses for RMC plants. The awareness programme was chaired by Shri. Sanjay Goswami, Scientist F & Deputy Director General and Shri. Alok Singh, Scientist E & Director of MSCOW. This milestone event was held at the Bureau of Indian Standards Pune Office and garnered an overwhelming response from industry partners and stakeholders. The resounding success of the program underscores the construction industry's eagerness to embrace and implement higher standards.

The program, which was attended by industry experts, RMC operators, and construction professionals, provided insights into the significance of the Indian Standard IS 4926, titled "Code of Practice - Ready Mixed Concrete." IS 4926, developed by BIS, sets the benchmark for quality and durability of concrete used in construction projects, contributing to a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable future for India's infrastructure.

A pivotal aspect of this program was the announcement of grant of first of RMC Process Certification to M/s Kalokhe RMC, Pune and BIS have begin granting licenses to RMC plants not only in Pune but also in other cities of Maharashtra and Gujarat through the Western Regional Office located in Mumbai. This initiative is a game-changer for the RMC industry as it signifies a move toward ensuring higher quality standards and greater consistency in concrete production, thereby enhancing the reliability and longevity of construction projects.

The involvement of BIS as a certification body is a clear testament to its unwavering dedication to setting and maintaining high standards in construction practices.
