Do construction managers have to start out as construction workers after college?

No, after collage, it is not necessary to start a career as a construction worker because both jobs have different aspects and needs.
Before getting to post of construction manager, the person should have knowledge of all activities and how they are done, what time frame it required, sequencing of activity, cost control and many more aspect.
After getting the knowledge, the person gets powers to control the work to make it on stipulated time frame, within budget and supreme quality.
So after collage it is necessary to supervise all works as a supervisor or trainee engineer and learn the all thing. when implementation of all learnt things starts the promotion from front line supervision to top management starts and it has many roles in between from which a person goes up if had the knowledge and abilities to get the things done correctly.
