Does cement deteriorate and what happens after that?

Every material like steel stones deteriorate over time and due to atmospheric conditions around it.
The time at which it deteriorates can vary from say few 100 years to few million years.
Stone is the longest surviving material on this earth, this is the reason you will find all ancient structure in Today's time still standing, because they are made up of stones.
If it made up of steel, the life span might have been around 1000 years or less.
After deterioration, the strength of material get reduced and it fails to take load when its own strength goes below that, the failure or structure starts after that.
