Designing of structures is field of specialisation and designers owns the complete responsibility of his design which is made real by civil engineer by building it on ground with steel and concrete.
Its very hard to explain why peoples do not teach to other, what they had learnt, more specifically in this field. may be due to responsibility that lies with designer.
In normal words, i could say, learning to do designing is like, learning to operate a patient in operation theatre, where doctor is responsible for all his action but may in some situation get hid from his mistakes due to the responsibility taken by family of patient and allowed doctor to operate.
Designing a structure is also like doing operation but here he took the responsibility and not the families who resides or going to reside in that structure.
The builder or engineer do follow most of the things blindly and as stated in drawing until he finds something majorly abnormal in drawing.
So this is a job with very high responsibility which also pays a high money but comes with responsibility.
This may be the reason, why peoples do not like to discuss on this subject, there are possibilities of young engineers doing misadventure with half knowledge or knowledge gain from listening to TOM, Dick and Harry. If that misadventure becomes a nightmare, all the guides could end up in trouble for feeding the demon without knowing about it.
Or the other reason could be, the engineers who already learnt, does not want to create the competition for them in this business by making many aware about designing.
Or there are really very few who knows about how to do designing of structure and are very busy with handling to their clients and projects.
When i go to anywhere and when i see a small builders (In Marathi we call them as Guntha Mantri) building a project with design supplied by some insane designer and the way the reinforcement works done there, it really makes me angry to see such evil play with life of human (till Today such structures are standing still but i do not know about how long they can, one earthquake could make everything out and such insane designers will be hanged till death. i do not wish such event should occur but if it occurs, it will give more clarity on either what i was doing was correct or its just a matter of sense nothing happens to structure even you build it in cruel way by hiring a evil designer).
Best way to learn designing of structure;
1. Learn it from IS 456
2. Learn a software like Etab, Staad Pro etc. to see the effects of loading on it.
3. Now do design the small structure on paper and then on computer.
4. After doing its analysis on your own, get it checked from professional designer or consultant either for free or by paying for services you took from them.
5. Best way to learn is joining the designing firm as trainee and learn the way of designing.
6. there may be some tutors or institute who do provide teaching on designing of structures (you may search at websites like Udemy for such courses).
