How do I calculate the number of props required for a 1000 sq. ft. slab area?

It is all depends the type of the slab, thickness, primary and secondary supporting system.
For a conventional system where acrow spans are uses, they are mostly spaced at 2 feet center to center. each acrow span does have 2 props below it and if the span is extended, there will be one more prop at center.
Unless the type of system for formwork is defined and designing is not done, it is very difficult to calculate props required for it.
