How to measure an area of field in acres practically

Generally when it come to fields, it was measured in Acres. So how can we measure any field physically to determine the area

Field is huge, practically you can measure it with Total station by picking the co ordinates of boundry. - this is quickest way.

Other ways
Lengthy procedures
Measure angles of boundry line
Measure lengths with tape, rolling wheel, by foot steps etc.
While doing this inclination of ground should be accounted.

Then do calculation and calculate area of field.

No one have time today to measure acres of land manually, everyone want quick results.

Total Station will give you highly accurate results.
Other process like plane table survey, chain survey etc will give you still near to accuracy result but will take much more time.

Sometimes land issues between two field owners then village karanams will measure using chain to measure acres of land. How they will do this

Using a probe of total station easier than carrying a chain.

Still you can measure a boundry, take the govt survey plan which shows shape of plot and length of each line.

Walk around the boundry and count steps you taken, calculate the length of boundry as per your step length and verify it with plan of plot you have.

Do survey of all boundy, then you will get idea, is someone encroched in your plot or not.
