Thought for the Day: Planning Takes Time.
archdevil presents a nice list/set of parameters that go into the planning process that can be used at the concept phase of, not just a construction project, but of ANYTHING in your life that will take lots of steps to accomplish. Don't think that there is some kind of "magic software package" out there that will make a plan for you - YOU have the best planning tool in the world and it's with you every day - It's that thing between your ears....
When you are starting any task, sit down with pen/paper and start charting your Course of Action. Take your time. Brainstorm. Think of as many of the variables that you can. Write them down and then start to assemble them. It is a time-consuming process, but the effort you take at the early stage of any effort is worth it.
I've written extensively about the Job Start-up Process. If you are a Construction Engineer and preparing to begin a project, I'd highly recommend you take some time and read any/all of these articles.
