Aggregate is a broad category of coarse to medium grained particulate material used in construction, including sand, gravel, crushed stone, slag, recycled concrete and geosynthetic aggregates. Aggregates are a component of composite materials such as concrete. The aggregate serves as reinforcement to add strength to the overall composite material. Aggregates are also used as base material under foundations, roads, and railroads.
Aggregate are of two types:-
1. Coarse aggregate
2. Fine aggregate


Coarse aggregate are of size varies from 4.75 mm to 80 mm which are categorised further as :
1. Aggregate size 80mm - 40mm
2. Aggregate size 40mm - 20mm
3. Aggregate size 20mm - 4.75mm
