Creep can be defined as the elastic and long-term deformation of concrete under a continuous load.
Generally, long term pressure changes the shape of the concrete structure and the deformation occurs along the direction of the applied load.
Consequences of Creep:
- Increased deflection on beams and slab.
- Increased deflection of long column leading to buckling.
- The gradual transfer of load from concrete to reinforcing steel in compression member.
- Loss of prestress in PSC.
