Which cement is best for concrete slab construction? OPC or PPC?

PPC has advantage when compared to OPC :
• Higher durability of concrete structure due to less permeability of water.
• More resistance towards the attack of alkalies, sulphates, chlorides, chemicals.
• Better work ability.
• Low heat of hydration.
• Due to high fineness, PPC has better cohesion with aggregates and makes more dense concreteness.
• Comparative lower Water-Cement ratio provides an added advantage for the further increase of compressive strength of the concrete.
• Better surface finish.
& Cost of PPC is less then OPC.
( Insted of PPC its better to go with OPC + Flyash up to 70:30 propertions for normal slabs i.e up to grade M30)

For Finishing works PPC is prefered.

Where the early strength is reqired OPC is prefered.
Dear Santosh KN

Thanks for the enlightening all of us!

Have a good weekend!

As far as Durability of the structure is concerned, Portland Slag Cement (PSC) and Portland Pozzolana Cement (PPC) is a best for all concrete works. The Blended cements (PSC, PPC) gives Higher later strengths and reduce effect of Sulphate attack and Alkali aggregate reactions.Apart form the above, Concrete made with PSC and PPC gives more densified structure due to it's secondary reactions of Pozzolanic materials..
