When using cement paste for fixing dado tile, we should ensure that the thickness of cement paste should not be more than 10mm.
Below i have listed few causes od dado tile de-bonding;
Cement paste thickness is more than 10mm
Tiles not soaked in water for at least 2 hours before installation.
Higher grade of cement like OPC 53 used for installation of dado.
No space left for breathing which pull of the tiled surface due to higher hydration rate.
Cement initial setting time is more and many layers of dado installed in 1 day one above the other which caused settlement or de-bonding due to higher water pressure at lowest layer (think of formwork design - done by considering liquid pressure on form which create lateral thrust)
Lack of curing after installation of dado.
The surface on which tiles are installed had lack of curing.
The best way of installing dado tile with cement is to use low heat cement or OPC 33 grade cement, sometimes OPC 43 will also work. you can also use PPC or PSC cement for this work.
In case if you have OPC 43 or 53 grade cement, should add 5 to 10% lime (sanla) in it for making paste which will reduce the hydration and also work as water retainer.
