Will new concrete bond to old concrete?

Bonding of the concrete happens when you do a proper construction joint preparation on old concrete.

Lattice (cement paste) came on surface need to be removed and aggregate surface need to be exposed without dislodging the aggregates.

You can do construction joint preparation either by following method

with water jet remove slurry from top of concrete and make aggregate surface exposed.
Roughen the concrete surface after setting and remove the paste.
Insert 20mm aggregates halfway into poured concrete surface.

There are many more ways like making shear keys in concrete surface, chipping the concrete top at slanting angle etc.

If you do construction joint preparation, concrete will bond for sure with old concrete and will also increase the durability of the structure.
