Work Procedure for Policeman's Grout

SCOPE:
POLICEMAN’ S GROUT shall be carried out for the rectification work of unexpected concrete joints in case of emergency situations.
AREA OF APPLICATION:
This is applicable when concreting gets interrupted for very long period in case of emergency situations, such as crane break down, pump break down, power failure and the concrete placed in shutters, sets & looses workability.
The situation is unplanned & unavoidable and leads to cold joints.
MATERIALS:
Ingredients of POLICEMAN’S GROUT are Cement, Fine aggregates & Water. Use of Admixtures is subject to workability requirements.
Site tested Ordinary Portland Cement conforming to IS: 12269, IS: 8112, IS: 1489 or IS: 455 shall be used. Cement shall be OPC /PPC/PSC.
MIX PROPORTION AND OTHER ASPECTS:
The POLICEMAN’ S GROUT shall have W/C ratio same as that of concrete used in the structure.
Cement: F.A. = 2 : 1 ( By Weight )
Water to be added to the POLICEMAN’ S GROUT shall be calculated based on w/c of the parent concrete.
The dosage of admixture added depends on workability requirements. The workability shall be such as to fill-up all pockets & gaps above the set surface.
SURFACE PREPARATION:
The surface of set concrete shall be cleaned thoroughly to remove all loose aggregate, mortar and foreign materials by application of pressurized water jet.
PROCEDURE OF POLICEMAN’ S GROUT :
Application:
Surface of the set concrete shall be wetted before start of application. .
Cement and F.A .in specified proportion or as mentioned above (2:1) shall be mixed. Water to be added to the POLICEMAN’S GROUT shall be calculated based on w/c of the parent concrete.
DEFINATION OF EMERGANCY SITUATION:
Partly concreted columns or walls, whose concreting has been terminated due to unavoidable cases. This is to be applied when concreting gets interrupted in case of emergency situations, such as crane break down, pump break down, power failure, heavy rains and the concrete placed in shutters sets & looses workability
