Can we use steel bar instead of tamping rod during slump test ?

Question: During the slump test Can we use steel bar instead of tamping rod ....? Why the officials say that always use the tamping rod with rounded ends... but still there is no proper reason is come to the fore...!!!

Why not.tamping rod also made of steel.ensure that dia of bar should not be less than 16 'mm preferably mild steel so that it won't hurt your palm or finger while tamping

Sharp edge can damage base plate of slump cone and can also lead to accidental ijuries to workers.

You can use 16mm dia steel rod made smooth for protecting hand and with smooth both end to make it safe for working.

Threads on steel might be the reason .
While pulling out after blowing it does have some skin friction due to that of treads on tmt bar

Ribbed steel bars introduces air into the concrete during tamping, and the result of the slump test is affected eventually by the air voids.

By commonsense: No issues. We can use.
By specifications: We cannot use steel bar. B'coz tamping rod is made at a standard dimensions.

Using a steel bar instead of tamping rod does not cause any issue unless it is made plain or safe for use.

Why the officials say that always use the tamping rod with rounded ends
it may be due to it facilitate easy insertion into fresh concrete without much efforts.
Also a round tip does ensure no damages to base plate and no accidental injuries to anyone.
