How to calculate partical density of soil in lab ??

You can do core cutter method for finding Field density of Soil.

1. First you need to know the Maximum dry density of soil and Optimum moisture content.
You can do it by site lab or you can get it from external laboratory by submitting samples.

2. For checking a particular area's compacted density at site, you need core cutter instrument and just calculate as follows.

a. Volume of mould: (A)
b. Weight of empty mould.(B)
c. Weight of mould + soil (C)
d. weight of soil. (D= C-B)
e. Moisture content of soil(E).
f. Density = F= D-E/A in %
g. Maximum dry density. G (which you got from external lab).
h. % of compaction : F/G.

Normally we need to achieve atleast 95% of site compaction comparing G.
