My client suggest that the sequence of painting as follows.

1. Primer application one coat above wall plastering.
2. Wall putty two coats.
3. Emulsion two coats.

Is it right sir?

The painter suggests to apply primer above wall putty and before emulsion application.
Because we can get area coverage only doing by this.

Any one please clarify what is the normal practice for sequence of painting works.
Is there any standard procedure available in codes, standard practice books, etc.

Reference needed.

Thanks,
Vidhyasagar.

Primer act as a bonding agent between 2 layers. Also it covers all voids and reduce porosity which increases the coverage of painting material.

Your painter did suggested correctly.

The sequence for good painting should be like

Primer
2 coats of putty (its generally one coat putty only, wht is done in 2nd coat putty, undulation seen by eyes on wall are covered. Saying 2 coat putty doeas not mean 2 layers of putty done on wall)

Then primer

And then 2 coats of paint as per selection of material (2nd coat of paint generally done before handing over of flat).

Your client may be trying to save some money but it may add expenses on repair works.

Your client suggestion is also not a bad.
