Slender columns at ground floor level caused the failure
This failure may be because of horizontal load due to wind/seismic
No shear wall at ground floor level
Reinforcement detailing would not have been done as per codal provisions
Some of the main causes for building collapses are bad design, faulty construction, foundation failure, extraordinary loads, unexpected failure modes or a combination of causes. But collapses also occur due to natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, cyclones and fires.
The following are main reasons to collapse this type of structure
Structural Design Handled by quacks
Absence of soil test
Lack of adherence to building specification by personnel.
The use of sub-standard building materials
Professional negligence
Bad construction practices
Structural Integrity
Design inadequacies
Structural Failures
Incompetence in engineering practices
Column failure in think in this structure 230mm×230mm wall thickness columns are used throughout the building because of this the load provided more than 2stories is not capable to withstand.
In this case ground floor can be provided with normal 9inch (23cm)column
Slender columns at ground floor level caused the failure
This failure may be because of horizontal load due to wind/seismic
No shear wall at ground floor level
Reinforcement detailing would not have been done as per codal provisions
This is due to soft storey failure. Soft storey is provided in all multi storey building for parking. To avoid soft storey failure we can provide shear wall.
