what causes the failure of this structure

ranna

Apprentice
Slender columns at ground floor level caused the failure
This failure may be because of horizontal load due to wind/seismic
No shear wall at ground floor level
Reinforcement detailing would not have been done as per codal provisions

Can any one explain with logical reason what causes the failure of this structure

Some of the main causes for building collapses are bad design, faulty construction, foundation failure, extraordinary loads, unexpected failure modes or a combination of causes. But collapses also occur due to natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, cyclones and fires.

The following are main reasons to collapse this type of structure

Structural Design Handled by quacks
Absence of soil test
Lack of adherence to building specification by personnel.
The use of sub-standard building materials
Professional negligence
Bad construction practices
Structural Integrity
Design inadequacies
Structural Failures
Incompetence in engineering practices

Soft story of building need to be considered during design stage , its may be one of the major cause of this failure.
