Joints in plaster are visible generally on external wall and might get disappeared after painting.

In case semi-skilled masons tries to hide it, they can make a mess by overlapping plaster putting extra cements at joint.

To avoid joint issue, planning of plastering activity is important.

The plaster should be always done in panels of vertical height. i.e.- you can calculate the coverage area as per the team of plastering you have and make a vertical panels design in which plaster starts from top and ends at bottom. in case the building height is more you can make horizontal panels too with vertical.

You can either make level pads or simply put a line thread from top to bottom for making plaster in line.

Below image shows planning of plastering as per panel.

If the height of building is more and cant be covered in a day, the planning of plastering activity should be done as shown.

This ensures the curing of plaster and minimization of joints in plaster.

There is no extra treatment required at the joints.
the mason should not overdosed extra cement in trying to achieving something which he had on his mind.
use of extra cement makes joints visible.

why mason use extra cement while doing plaster.

when plaster mortar prepared becomes very workable or watery, it wont stick to surface easily when applied in higher thicknesses.
to make it stick mason do sprinkle dry cement on plaster to achieve the thickness which leads to cracking, color variation in case of final layer.

If plastering is not planned and done in wavy fashion or without a correct ending, the finishing of that plaster wont happen in straight line which causes issue when you make plaster on remaining surface and leads to undulations too.

Each day work should be checked for uniformity in plaster and straightness.

Best way to make hide all joints is to have a sprinkle coat / dabba coat / sand face as a top finish which hides almost all undulations but in this case keeping uniform texture is important.

If the issue is caused by improper workmanship where correct line and level is not ensured while plastering, it is advisable to either train them to do a good work or replace the gang.
