Why is 28 days compressive strength cement concrete taken as the standard in the civil engineering construction industry?

Because normally at the age of 28 Days, cement do achieve its maximum strength at rapid rate, cement still continue to gain the strength further that age but the increase in strength further that age is not significant and measuring beyond it may lead to practical problem in cases where it is not predetermined for the concrete mixes behavior over longer age.
